Governor's Island!

Happy Monday! I FINALLY got a chance to head over to Governor's Island on Saturday, and we had super-perfect weather too. Woo!  It's such a magical place and it's only a ferry boat ride away! Next time I go, Nik and I are definitely going to rent some bikes, 'cause it is a biker's paradise there. They even let you rent tandem bikes, how awesome is that??

Also, I have an iphone now, so of course I'm totally obsessed with the hipstamatic app, and took boatloads of photos over the weekend.  Humor me!

I was super-psyched to find the {NewNew} Team's etsy store among all the houses on the island, and I snapped some photos inside of all the pretty displays.  The {NewNew} Team is a group of etsy sellers that live in the greater New York Metro area (I'm a member too!), and they were given one of the homes on the island to transform into a boutique for the summer!  They did such a great job with this, seriously, might impressive, and everyone's stuff looked great.

Toasted tomato sammich! (and pasta salads)

So, toasted tomato sandwiches might be my favorite summertime meal, at least breaking the top 5 (corn on the cob, breaded and fried zucchini, salted cucumbers, and fresh berries, peaches, and cantaloupe are prolly the others!)  I used to eat these all the time as a kid in the summertime, although these days it is a slightly more grown-up version. I got some amazingly awesome heirloom tomatoes in my CSA last weekend, so of course this is where they end up (note, I could prolly eat heirloom tomatoes like apples, so so so so yummy!)  Sliced tomatoes, a little smear of veganaise, all on lightly toasted whole wheat sourdough bread (also from farmer's market), and I'm a happy girl.

I have also had some fun pasta salads lately, because it's too hot to cook (blahblah) and my CSA finally took it easy with all the lettuce, so I can eat something else.  Check out these hypnosis-like radishes I got!   Also, fresh-cut peaches are amaaaaazing in pasta salad! Seriously!

Ridiculous sleepy kitty and sneak peeks

This guy here, he's ridiculous. Seriously. The cuteness, I can't handle it! He's notoriously hard to photograph with his black fur and ninja-like moves, so I had to get all art-photo-kid with this photo of him.  He's totally knocked out and you'll have to trust me on his cuteness.  Zzzzz :)

I'm in painting mode lately, working on twelve new pieces for my 2011 calendar. I'm super-excited and having fun with them!  I'll share peeks!

Vamos!

Happy Friday!  I've had travel on the brain lately, so I was looking back over some sketches that I did while I was in Peru. Trying to "recapture the moment" or something like that!  I was inspired a whole lot there by all the bright colors and fun patterns, and it got me thinking about other inspiring places that I would want to visit in the future.

I'm all about going to India, and their BEAUTIFUL spice markets. I don't even care what the spices are, they are just so pretty to look at!

Brazil's Carnival is a must-go trip someday. Check out this craaaaazy float from from the School of Samba!

And I think Tokyo is probably the next big trip that I want to take in the next few years. Bring on the sensory overload!

Where do you want to go?? Show me pictures!

County Fair!

So Nik and I went to the county fair while we were in PA visiting his parents, this past weekend. I haven't been to a county fair in over a decade, so it was a pretty amusing and kinda mind-blowing experience. Here's to America, home of the deep-fried oreos and beer pong booths?? Haha! Ohhh, we were highly amused.

Milk-mustachioed lady:

Break a beer bottle and win a crappy prize!

Fair food vendors have gotten more inventive over the years!

Potatoe! Hahaha

Carmel! hahahaha

Win a beer funnel?

Don't forget to pick up a souvenier!

Jesus looking for a cell phone signal??

You can't forget the demolition derby!

Nik actually ate these (BARF).

New notecards in the shop!

Hello! Happy Monday!  It's back to work time, after a lovely long weekend at Nik's parent's house. It's so nice to get out of the city from time to time!

I have had a whole bunch of new notecards made up for my Etsy shop for awhile now and I'm just getting around to updating. I basically put everything on hold until my website was finished and lets just say that all work and no play makes me sad. I'm so excited to go back to other fun projects that I have had on the back burner the last month or so. So yes, hello new notecards!
