A killdeer is one of the first birds I learned to identify when I started getting interested in birds. One built her nest by the railroad tracks near my house. I watched the eggs every day, and I think they were very close to hatching when they got run over by a truck crossing the field by the tracks. I was devastated. :( But I learned lots observing the parents - including the classic broken-wing feint. Will always have a fondness in my heart for the killdeer. Thanks for featuring it. :)
