It's Gocco madness at my apartment now! I've been playing around with it for the last few days and it's so much fun! All sorts of possibilities. This is the first limited edition run I have made; Only an edition of six. The paper size is 6"x9" and the actual image size is approx. 5"x8". Watercolor and ink are used on top of the gocco print.

I spy a May Queen
New print up in the shop! I've been working on this painting for awhile now, and finally finished it up last night. It's bigger than my usual ones, 18"x20"ish, I think, painted with watercolor on a gessoed Pine board. There will be others to go along with it in the series, but I'll probably take my time on those also.

Etsy Storque Article!
A few days back, I wrote an article, through the Vegan Etsy team, for a Storque piece that Etsy wanted to do on a vegan lifestyle. Today it was published! I was a tad nervous about it, as I don't really consider myself a Hemingway, but I have gotten a really great response to it! Even some personal emails, thanking me, about it! So, hooray! You can find the article here.

Jump, Jump, Jump!
Remember Jump Rope for Heart? I just remember being in the elementary school gym for HOURS, or what seemed like forever, jumping around with my little jump rope. I'm pretty sure that I really didn't know what I was jumping for either. I wonder if schools still do that?

New Paintings!
I finished some of my new paintings this weekend! Finally! I get annoyed when I have something that I really want to work on and just don't have the time to do so. This sunday was wiiiiiide open though, so I spent the whole day working on these.
First up, are the new burlesque girls series. Meet Ms. Lickety Sweets!
And Ms. Orange Bottom!
And the sweetheart sisters with their mesmerizing hula show!
And then there are the two random paintings. Meet Ms. Cici at the beach!
And uh, don't piss these guys off anymore!
Originals are up in my shop!
Hooray for productive weekends!

It's all gonna break
I forgot to post this earlier in the week, but I went to Dr. Sketchy's last saturday, for the first time in a few months (busy!). The theme this time was Absinthe, or The green Fairy. It was sponsored by Le Tourment Vert, an absinthe company. Anyways, it was a fun session. I won one of the contests (incorporate Moulin Rouge or the style of Toulouse Lautrec, into your drawing) and won a bottle of absinthe.
My little sister turns 16 this week! Gah! I got her some super-fun presents and sent them to her. I found this awesome pencil case at this japanese bookstore in midtown. So darn cute! Super-cute panda stickers, an origami booklet with pretty paper, and a poo/pee notepad were also found there. I also got her a necklace with sprinkles encased in resin from a fabulous Etsy artist, Stoopidgirl And finally, I painted her some falling raindrops on a blank sketchbook pad (I'm probably going to be making some more of these for my shop).
Yesterday was the Siren Music Festival at Coney Island. A friend and I got there in the late afternoon, with enough time to catch the last three songs of Parts and Labor. D'oh. I missed These are Powers also. We both weren't too interested in any of the other bands until later that evening, so we decided to just spend the day laying out on the beach. So great! We soaked ourselves under the palm tree sprinkler (my friend braved the ocean...) and then layed on a blanket and chatted the rest of the afternoon. It felt SO nice. It was a disgustingly hot day out, but we were cool the whole time, with the nice breeze coming off the ocean. We went and listened (couldn't really see) Islands in the evening and then made our way over to the main event, Broken Social Scene. It was impossible to find a good space in the crowd to see the band, so we decided to go over on the sidelines, where you could actually see the band. Security wasn't really into people standing on the sidelines and kept telling us we had to keep walking, so we ended up with a small cluster of other people on the side of the stage, where they let us stand. It was kinda like we were backstage, ha. Amazing show; lots of my favorite songs were played, and it was hilarious to watch families coming in from a day on the beach and rocking out, even if they didn't know who they were. The little kids were the funniest, dancing all over the place. The sun really drained me and I slept amazingly well last night.
And finally, it was a blueberry pancake breakfast kind of day today. Yum!

Yeti Momma
A friend of mine just had a baby and I just saw the first pictures today...beyond cuteness!! I was thinking about her today on my lunch break; wondering how life with a new little person must be. It's super-hot outside today, but I was chilled to the bone from the work AC so it didn't bother me so much. They opened up the grassy area in Madison Square Park, so I basked in the sun and doodled baby yetis.
I went to hear Naomi Klein speak last night at Barnes and Noble. I haven't read her new book, "The Shock Doctrine," yet, but she certainly convinced me. She didn't go to into the book itself, but talked about current events that relate to her thesis for this book. She talked about this fear of oil that this country is facing and how the pundits are basically reiterating big oil's agenda instead of pushing for exploration of new resources to ween ourselves off our addiction to oil. We were on the right path a few months ago, when other resources were brought to the table, but it has quickly changed by a fire-spreading lies that we need to drill in Alaska, for instance, which in fact would be an ecological disaster. She talked about how society is being fed lies which turn into fear and force through political agenda which otherwise would NOT go through. Anyways, I was really excited to hear her and it was a very motivational talk and made me want to learn more about certain instances she mentioned. And if any of you haven't read "No Logo" yet, do so now!

Yeti Rain-Dance!
Ooga-booga!
These doodles lately are small studies for larger paintings in the future, so you shall see them again shortly. Why are pointy teeth so cute? Also, why can't I just do one thing at a time? So many questions, so little time.

Monday Funday
It's a dreary day out today, which I somehow don't mind. It's a good day to get a lot of work done.
Ohh! I made my 100th sale this weekend on Etsy! This is exciting to me, since it was a goal of mine to make a 100 sales in a year, and I'm way early! By like 5 months! Woohoo! I have a slew of things cooking, but they're all still in various stages of completion. I will hopefully have a nice shop update by next monday.

Sunshine weekend!
Seriously, sunshine does wonders! My summer fridays started yesterday, getting out at 2pm. A good friend of mine is in town, so I'll be hanging out and catching up with him for most of the weekend. Hooray for visitors! Good music and good food and good friends!
Here's some food porn that I made this past week. Tempeh wingz (from Don't Eat off the Sidewalk) with a oil/vinegar salad with kohlrabi, cucumbers, carrots, beets, onions, garlic chives, and garlic. Perfect summer dinner!
An AMAZZZZING Black Forest Cheezecake from the Delicious Choices cookbook (recipe link found in that thread) Seriously, so so so yummy. I made a cherry sauce from the cherries in my CSA. The chocolate I used in the cake part even had dried cherries in it. Nik and I have both been scarfing it down. Highly recommended!

Gloom Sisters
I feel like I have one of those gloom clouds following me around today. I tried to cast it off by sitting in the sunshine of the park this afternoon on my lunch break and doodling. Plus, I needed to warm up, after the AC at work turned me into an ice cube.
Ghostly gloom sisters. They kinda look like a seahorse also. heh.

Some more sneaky pictures of a series to come...

I've been listening to Liz Phair and The Breeders all day long
I made seitan piccata (from Veganomicon) for 4th of July dinner for Nik and I. Steamed asparagus and carrots as a side. The sauce was soooo yummy and my seitan came out perfect (I used the Seitan Cutlet recipe, also from Vcon, but then baked it afterwards to make it firmer). I used the leftover sauce (a white wine sauce with green olives, capers, and pimientos and some herbs) for a salad dressing tonight!
This weekend I also made some blueberry muffins, using the blueberries that I received in my CSA this week. This is the recipe I used
Painted a bit tonight. Started working on a BIIIG painting (well big for me; about 20"x24") of a lovely moth-girl. Also did some more sketches for my new series, but I can't show those yet!

Happy Birthday Miles! (and nation)
Happy Birthday today to Miles!! He turns SIX. Aww, my little boy is growing up! *sniff* And his claws come out when he's happy (I'm petting him while taking the picture). Cuuuuute.
Gallery-hopping yesterday was awesome. Super-humid outside, but I walked over to Chelsea after work and went straight to the Philip Pearlstein exhibit to be blown away, just the way I had anticipated. I popped in a few more galleries that caught my eye walking by and happened upon some other awesome works. Scott King had some fluorescent printed posters and wall paintings in the Bortolami gallery on W. 25th st., called "The Trial Continues." I inconspicuously tried to snap a few photos. Ha, I was aiming while not looking, as the room is small and the people working there were eyeing me.
I happened upon a group show that had this painting (painted on a plastic fence! with some super-plastic-like paint) that I really was taken by. I thought I grabbed a flier with the artist's name on it, but I didn't. d'oh.
Buckminster Fuller exhibit! It was geo-tastic!
I curated another treasury yesterday for the Vegan Etsy team that I belong to. Check it out here for the next few days (and this image here for posterity).
Happy 4th everyone. I have a bowl of cherries and pancakes and my doodles to work on all day. I love holidays! I might or might not watch the Macy's display tonight. Rain looks imminent anyways...
