Insane-o Holiday Shop Updates!

Hello! Hope your weekend was lovely! I spent mine rushing around town (in my first zip-car rental!) donating clothes, bringing old electronics to be recycled, an Ikea trip for some new shelving, and a complete reorganization and cleaning of my apartment. Nik and I got a lot done, but have only really broken the surface. We're trying to make our apartment a happier place, so that we will feel less inclined to look for a new one. So far it has worked! I decluttered a lot (because I have the packrat problem, not him) and the new shelving has helped a LOT. Until next weekend!

I have an insane-o update here for you; one that has been slowly added to my Etsy shop over the last few weeks! I'm super-excited about everything and hope that you enjoy also! This is the bulk of the new things being added to my shop for holiday, and I just plan on working on new prints for the rest of this season. I have also been contemplating having my first giveaway soon...Enjoy!

New things and Shop Update

So I went to a concert a month or so ago, and I was feeling rather down and sad and frustrated, and was hoping one of my favorite bands, Broken Social Scene, would cheer me up. Of course they did. Kevin Drew has this cheesy way of saying things that most people don't say (because they are corny/cheesy sounding), that actually make you feel good. Charles Spearin performed his "Happiness" project, where he recorded his neighbor, Mrs. Morris, talking about happiness, and played it to the audience. And then he played it again, but this time with a saxophone accompaniment that played in the same tones as Mrs. Morris' voice. It was amazing and the "happiness is love" part she said kinda stuck with me. Later in the night, Kevin Drew was building up to a loud part in one of their songs and he kept saying things like "just let out all your frustrations and angers and sadness" and "just scream as loud as you can." The crescendo happened and at the final climatic horn-blasting part, everyone in the room just screamed and yelled as loud as they could and it felt damn good. I needed that and it completely inspired me and that is what this series is based on.

A lot of crappy things are happening around the world right now, that can't be solved in a day, or a week, or even years. Wars, genocides, environmental disasters, economic downturns, corruption, layoffs, fights, injustice, unfairness, prejudice, hate, ignorance, sexism, and on and on and on. Sometimes you just have to step back and remind yourself and others that there is still some good in the world around us, among the bad, and that it is good to take a deep breath and think something positive. Not to be corny or anything, but sometimes you just have to tell yourself or others to relax, or to be happy, or godammit, just let it all out.

These are watercolor, dyes, and pen/ink on paper. Click for a more detailed view! All roughly 8.5"x11" Prints are available in my shop!

Portrait of Melancholy

New print in the shop! It's funny this came out so melancholy when I worked on it while watching the Republican National Convention. I was so incredibly frustrated by every word that came out of everyone's mouth, ESPECIALLY last night, yet the painting came out so soothing.

Speaking of the RNC, I was mostly horrified, during Sarah Palin's speech, by the grotesquely adoring faces of the audience. They made me think of that lady from the old Soundgarden, "Black Hole Sun," video. You know what I'm talking about:

For real! Scary! I hope that was only an isolated reaction to this "pitbull with lipstick."

And Guiliani just pisses me off everytime he opens his mouth. *shakes fists*

I spy a May Queen

New print up in the shop! I've been working on this painting for awhile now, and finally finished it up last night. It's bigger than my usual ones, 18"x20"ish, I think, painted with watercolor on a gessoed Pine board. There will be others to go along with it in the series, but I'll probably take my time on those also.

Apple of my Eye

Beautiful day out! This is that painting I was talking about. I've been eating a whole lot of apples lately, which is something that isn't very common this time of year. It's the only fruit at the farmer's market though! Lonely apples. And they have been pretty tasty too. Ohhh, I can't wait for summer fruits though. This is the time of year when I get antsy for more variety in my fruits/veggies. No more root veggies!

Anyways, this was painted with watercolor and gouache on a heavily gessoed pine board. 16"x20". Prints are available in my shop!
