Renegade Brooklyn Recap!

I realize that it has been practically a whole week since Renegade Brooklyn, but I've been SUPER-lazy this week, just recovering and putting my apartment back together (as it tends to unravel a bit everytime I do a big craft fair.) I had a super-great weekend, even though the sun knocked my socks off and drained me pretty hard. I actually did better money-wise this year compared to last year, so yay new location and new stuff?! I'm pretty psyched on how my display came out this year. I think the added darker wood pieces go great with my usual hot pink, and it made everything just come together a lot nicer than previous displays. Still want to improve some things though, but that's always the case (and should always be the case, imo!)

I had awesome booth-mates this year, Mr. Sogs Handmade Creatures, who made some pretty darn cute little plush dudes. We had lots of fun and our stuff went together so well (so many people thought that we were one big shop!)

I managed to make a quick loop around the rest of the fair on Sunday afternoon, while Nik manned my booth for me, and I made one purchase. This doughnut mug from DanMade is pretty much the best thing ever. I bought an owl mug from him a few years ago and it has been my absolute favorite mug so I didn't think twice about purchasing one of his new designs. Seriously, it's a super-sturdy mug (it has a handle in the back that you can't see in the photo) and is the best for a hot cup of tea or coffee.

Other faves from the weekend include:

Next big fair is Renegade Chicago on Sept. 8/9th...

Craft Show prep

Sorry for the bad lighting in the photos, but I've been burning the midnight oil lately, prepping for Renegade Brooklyn (it's this coming weekend!) I have a bunch of new prints (a few of them are above and I'm SUPER-excited about them), and I've been making lots of cards, prints, wingpins, and other fun stuff. Make, make, make. I've been trying to really amp up my display this year also, so I decided to paint a new sign. I took some progress shots below! It's still not done, but I should be able to finish it in time...

You knew I'd be adding hot pink right?

Kitty toes! Always adorable! Also, he likes to lay all over my tablet and keyboard. King of the castle!

Governors Island Pop-up Shop!

So I promised some photos of the Governors Island pop-up shop that I'm participating in a week or so ago. I've talked about my love for Governors Island here before, and that definitely hasn't changed. It is a magical place, a 2-minute ferry ride from the bottom of Manhattan, and a quiet place to get away from the city. I love a quick getaway! In fact, I'm probably going to go there this coming weekend, if the weather cooperates, for a picnic and a proper wandering around. When I took these photos, I quickly popped into the shop, and then didn't get out of a chair for the next four hours because I was painting little kid's (and big kids!) faces. It was lots of fun, but a lot of work! I didn't even get a chance to snap any photos of that, because there were too many cupcakes, butterflies, batmans, and flowers to be drawn.

But the Better Than Jam pop-up shop! I think it looks better than ever, and I'm super-happy to be a part of it. If you are in the NYC-area this summer, you should make the trek to the Island. You can catch the ferry down near the Staten Island ferry (it's the older, prettier building to the left of the Staten Island ferry glass building behemoth). The shop will be open until Labor Day!

Vegan Summer Shop-up!

I am SO excited to be vending at the all-vegan Summer Shop-up this sunday, at Pine Box Rock Shop (an all-vegan bar!) from noon-6pm. Seriously, I am going to be surrounding by delicious food and drink all day. Check out this mega-awesome vendor list.

So yeah, if you are in NYC this weekend, stop by and say hi! It usually gets pretty packed at their events, so I would come early...

Reflecting and Rain

New photo for the front of my website; you like?

So, this past monday was the two year anniversary of when I quit my day job and I'm kinda in disbelief on how fast time has flown since I left my old job. I mean, I still feel like I am getting the hang of things and learning every day, doing things on my own and running my own business (which I guess is a good thing!) I'm still not where I want to be, but I'm still proud of how far I've come and things that I have accomplished. It's pretty awesome that I get to make art everyday and make a living off of it, and I'm super-grateful I can do that. I'm not saying it isn't hard and that I don't struggle, but it does make me happy. Here's to many more years!

It's been raining like crazy here. I could never live in the Pacific Northwest, I'd miss the sun too much! Props to people that can handle so much rain!

This little guy is still on the road to recovery with his diabetes. Slowly but surely his high blood glucose levels are dropping. I'll write more about that later.

Playing with new photo app on my phone, Photo Toaster. Kinda oversaturated, but I dig.
