Bits & Pieces

Vegan brunch!

I have a love/hate relationship with Summer, with the love side mostly being that all of my favorite fruits and veggies are in abundance. LOVING all the fruits lately. Blackberries made an appearance in my CSA this week and I always feel a sort of nostalgia with them. My sisters and Dad and I used to go out in the late summer, dressed in long sleeves and pants, into the back woods by our house to pick ALL OF THE BLACKBERRIES. No seriously, we would pick so many. And then my mom would make pies of deliciousness out of them. A fond childhood memory!

Won't you be mine?

Hello! Happy day of love! It's such a lazy, sunny day out today, perfect for baking in the sun-filled kitchen (the only room in my apartment that gets sun-filled *sadface*). My 'lil show was last night, and it was super-fun! Lots of people showed up and there were yummy cupcakes and wine for everyone! I took some (bad) photos of my 'lil display (skulls aren't mine, but everything under them is, and I didn't get a picture of the other two artist's stuff that was there), and some of my yummy vegan cupcakes (chocolate with blackberry jam and pretty pink frosting and chocolate sprinkles). Lots of good feedback on my work and lots of merch was sold. Woohoo!

Brunch this morning! Made some delicious hash browns with some homemade chunky applesauce and nice big pot of earl grey tea. Today will be a sad day of doing my taxes, but I think I am going to have to make some Chai rolls to cheer me up later. Have a beautiful day!

Chocolate-chip pancakes with Cherry Sauce and the South Street Seaport

Decadent brunch today with some chocolate-chip pancakes and a cherry sauce. That's a plum hiding in the background that I got in my CSA this morning. So pretty and fruity! Pancakes from VWAV and local cherries from my CSA. Lots of cherries! I'm going to make a cherry pie with them sometime this weekend!

Last night, we went to the South Street Seaport to check out Black Moth Super Rainbow. I was pretty impressed with the opener Dan Friel (Blank Dogs were eh), and Black Moth Super Rainbow was fun (although doesn't sound as good live as on album). They had fun video and costumes though. Afterwards, we went to see (500) Days of Summer, which was super-cute, but not as good as the trailer looks. Heading to Candle 79 tonight...mmm.

Decadent sunday brunch

a rockin' salad made earlier in the week. homemade vegan ranch dressing on top. Steamed, then browned in shoyu tempeh, pears, purple cabbage, radish, carrots, spinach, boston lettuce (i think?), makes up the salad.

Decadent brunch. Chocolate-chocolate-chip Blueberry pancakes with some awesome potatoes (garlic, thyme, sea salt, olive oil seasoning. boiled and then fried for optimal inside tenderness and outside crunchiness).

Weekend foods.

nik was sick, so i made super-awesome-make-him-better Miso Soup. It's got shiitake mushrooms, green onions, tofu, fresh ginger and garlic, carrots, and hijiki in a mushroom/miso broth. mmm.
I made a super-smoothie with blueberries, mango, spinach, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, and some soy milk and water. Who knew that you can't taste spinach at all in a smoothie?

Sunday brunch in my awesome new cast-iron pan: Scrambled tofu with green onions and avocado and some sweet potatoes mixed with red potatoes, seasoned with olive oil, sea salt, thyme, and ground pepper.

The month of April will be up tomorrow, along with a brand new painting I've been working on.
