VeganMoFo: Happy Halloween!

Super-happy about this charity project this month!  I've raised $310 so far for the sanctuary!  Thank you SO MUCH for all the kind words, comments, enthusiasm, and to everyone that has helped out this month.  All the remaining painting will remain in my shop and I will donate the money as they are sold still.  Cupcakes for everyone!

Happy Autumn is for sale here
Medium: Watercolor on Arches paper
Size: Approximately 5"x7" (image size is 4"x6")
Will fit in 5"x7" frame! Signed on back.
Note: I am doing a painting-a-day challenge for VeganMoFo, and will be creating a new painting of rescue animals or vegan food throughout the month of October, and placing them for sale. All proceeds (minus shipping) will be donated to For the Animals Sanctuary, because they are a pretty super-great non-profit animal rescue and sanctuary, in Blairstown NJ, and are vegan owned and operated. Feeding, housing, and taking care of these animals costs a lot of money, and as a non-profit organization, they rely entirely on donations. Hopefully (with your help!), I'll be able to make a size-able donation at the end of the month!  You can check out all the paintings I have created so far that are still for sale here!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cupcakes, from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World

So the end of MoFo is here, with sadness of course, so I decided to go all out with super-orange and pumpkin goodness.  Oh, and Happy Halloween!  I didn't dress up or really do much, as we had a freak snowstorm here (seriously, we have so much strange weather here this year...earthquake, hurricane, heat wave, snowstorm in October...).  Nik and I hibernated all weekend, watching scary movies, carving pumpkins, and baking up lots of pumpkin goodness.  Perfect!

Pumpkin Pancakes, from Vegan Brunch
I was going for a cute bear, on the left, but the bottom line kinda looks like a mouth instead of the bear's muzzle. Oh well!  Nik made a super-scary one!

It looked like this outside on Friday...

...And like this on Saturday!

Miles was confused too.

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th of july USA-ers! I'm having a lazy stay-in kind of 4th of july. I guess I celebrated last night anyways, at a friend's BBQ (TOTALLY jealous of her backyard.) Also, the stars are aligned I guess, because I got so many blueberries and cherries in my CSA yesterday that I HAD to make some red, white, and blue food. :)

I made an army of mini cupcakes to bring to the BBQ last night, vanilla with raspberry jam, a dab of icing, and a blueberry to top. Yummers! This morning, you KNOW I was busting out the blueberry pancakes right??

Happy long-weekend friends!

Won't you be mine?

Hello! Happy day of love! It's such a lazy, sunny day out today, perfect for baking in the sun-filled kitchen (the only room in my apartment that gets sun-filled *sadface*). My 'lil show was last night, and it was super-fun! Lots of people showed up and there were yummy cupcakes and wine for everyone! I took some (bad) photos of my 'lil display (skulls aren't mine, but everything under them is, and I didn't get a picture of the other two artist's stuff that was there), and some of my yummy vegan cupcakes (chocolate with blackberry jam and pretty pink frosting and chocolate sprinkles). Lots of good feedback on my work and lots of merch was sold. Woohoo!

Brunch this morning! Made some delicious hash browns with some homemade chunky applesauce and nice big pot of earl grey tea. Today will be a sad day of doing my taxes, but I think I am going to have to make some Chai rolls to cheer me up later. Have a beautiful day!

Pizza and cutiecakes

I made some pizza the other day, so that I could bring it to work on friday for my secret santa holiday party (they were having pizza and i didn't wanna feel left out). This is the first time I have been super-proud of my crust too. I used the VWAV recipe and I managed to get it real thin and yummy. Funny enough, I think the mega-radiator heat that was going on in my kitchen might have had something to do with it. I didn't even let it rise all that long after the initial rising time. Maybe a half hour before I started rolling it out and stretching. Miracle heat! I put some roasted broccoli, carrots, scallions, garlic, spinach, and tofu ricotta on it. Mmmmm. My pizza looked way better than work's pizza. Hmpf!

I also made some mini cupcakes to bring in for the shindig. They are the chocolate VCTOTW recipe with raspberry preserves spread on the top and some piped fluffy buttercream (with a pretty pink stripe!) and some dark chocolate raspberry shavings on top. They were so cute! Mini cutey-cake army!

Tomorrow, I have the day off, so I'm gonna super-bake lots of cookies and other yummy things to give to people and to bring home to my family. I leave tuesday morning and am gone until sunday. Yaay spending time with the family! I'm also REALLLLY looking forward to not working for nine days! Huzzahh!!

cutiepants paintings!

So here are those mini-paintings I was yapping about a few weeks ago. I am pretty happy with how they came out. There were ten originally, but Mister Banana got cut. Maybe he'll make the team in the future, but not right now. I think that my favorite is SeƱor Cinnabun. He will eat your (cutie)pants! These are 4"x4" and 4"x6" and prints are up in my shop!

psychedelic cupcake relief

I've been mildly obsessed with making dioramas for the last few months, but it has been a slow pace, trying to find the right materials to create them. This one is almost done now; I just have to paint the back (or cover it with fabric? not sure yet...) and it should be good. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It took forever to find the kind of shadowbox that I was looking for, and I actually just ended up turning around the wooden boards they sell at the art store around and pretending it was a shadowbox. Regular shadowboxes in the frame departments are expensive! I was originally going to paint it with acrylics, but I always feel I get way more detail and interesting texture with watercolor. And besides, it's a technicolor cupcake relief scene! Poor 'lil panda doesn't know what hit him! I wish cupcakes really did fall from the sky attached to pretty balloons. Another material issue I had, was what to hang the balloons with. I didn't like the way the knot looked when just string was used, so I ended up going to the jewelry stores near my work and finding some silver chains and jump rings to attach everything. I love that you can find anything ever in Manhattan. Yay convenience. So far so good! My next diorama has a bit more things hanging, so we'll see. This is about 6"x6" and the painting does go around the sides and top/bottom, but I neglected to take a picture of that part.

Dr. Sketchy's was this past Saturday. The theme was "all the colors of the rainbow," and while the model had some kick-ass costumes, I wasn't all that into her. She wouldn't stay still! So anyways, this was my favorite from the session:

Nik and I shared a GIGUNDA fruit bowl last weekend while watching a pretty anime. We almost finished it, but not quite. The rest was used in smoothies the next morning, alongside some awesome waffles.

There were actually farmers at the farmer's market near my apartment on saturday, so I bought fruits and veggies until my bag was full. Farmer's markets get me so excited; I swear, they are the happiest places on earth. I met my farmer that I will be getting my CSA from this year. I cannot WAIT until it starts!

Anyways, the point of me bringing up the farmer's market was this kick-ass black olive bread that I bought there. I couldn't even wait to get home before I started gnawing on it. I made some open (and closed) faced sammiches with some yummy marinated tofu and fresh spinach. Carrot sticks and some crispin apples on the side. Yummy lunch!
