I was able to make prints of a few of my new paintings sooner than I anticipated, so I'm gonna post two of them here. I'm really happy with how they came out. I painted these with watercolor/pigment inks on a gessoed wooden board. 12x12. the rest of the girls will finished up next week. 8 1/2 x 11 prints are available on my Etsy shop!
TGIF! have a lovely weekend!

Everything IS better in Brooklyn
I <3 brooklyn.
I'm super-tired right now and heading off to bed. I've done a lot of work this week and will be posting some new paintings early next week. I worked on making some more PB&J thought bubble magnets tonight, to ship out tomorrow and I monkeyed around with a few new ideas I'm going to try out. I like that word: monkeyed.
Okay, my eyes are starting to cross funny, so i'm going to bed. Night!

I just realized that one of my magnet sets is featured in the Hostess Gift Guide on Etsy! 1st page too! Yay! I feel like I have to take a better picture or something now, but that's just me being nitpicky, I think. But anyways, yay!

things that help de-phlegm me and my cold
mixed berry pancakes and some kick-ass spicy homefries.
chili and VCON cornbread. Chili has portabellas, tvp, corn, black beans, tons of garlic and spicy spices, and a lime squeezed in it for good measure. YUM. This worked out perfectly for the snowstorm that occured at the beginning of the weekend.
Miso soup with a whole ton of veggies and tofu in it. I don't even remember everything. sickalicious.
and, um, a pretty vag-I mean blood orange.
and BOO!

Look look look
She tries real hard, but she can't. Finished new painting last night; watercolor and gouache. I'm turning old doodles into paintings, if you noticed. I'm also thinking about what I should submit to the Communication Arts Illustration Annual competition this year. The deadline is March 11, but I always stress out about it, procrastinate, and then they extend it for another two weeks. I'm just gonna save myself the trouble and submit early this year. :) Not sure what yet though...

VDAY
Vday always means something completely different to me than most people. Eve Ensler helped define this day for me as the plight against violence towards women. Gruesome, I know, but I can't help it, it is forever embedded in me. Being in that play changed me (in a non-cheesy way, i swear). I honestly don't even remember how I ended up in it, but i'm extremely grateful that I did. The performance that I worked with was at RIT and consisted of both speaking and deaf performers, simultaneously performing. Being part of such a cast of amazing women was indescribable.
So yes, Vday: http://v10.vday.org/

Chicago!!
I went for a lovely little visit to Chicago last weekend. Although the air was quite frigid, I enjoyed all the sights and entertainment throughout the weekend. But duh, Nate was there, so of course it was great. :)
i love the bean. I could take a bajillion pictures of it. We went to see Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind on saturday night; had many laughs. It was interesting how similar the NYC one is to the Chicago chapter, but yet still little quirky differences. The Chicago one is waaaaaay more popular and exciting, while the NYC ones feels much more intimate and laid back. Both good and highly recommended. On sunday, we went to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright house and studio. So impressive! I didn't even think it looked all that big from the outside, plus it was in the middle of a total suburban sprawl neighborhood, but it was huuuuuuuge inside. And damn, I could LOVE to have his studio. Very interesting tour guide also, with good stories and tidbits. I love that feeling of going to a museum or going with a tour guide and feeling like, afterwards, you are looking at things in a whole new light. I couldn't help but examine the architecture of my surroundings for days afterward.
I had a reallly really crappy ride back home, but we won't talk about that. Nobody wants to hear about barf bags on airplanes and homeless men exposing themself to me. Blech.

some quinoa lovin'
Tri-color Radiatore with Cannellini Bean Sauce (with spinach, carrots, roasted red peppers, green onion, and radish)
Red Quinoa with asparagus, purple cabbage, radish, roasted red peppers, carrots, over a bed of lettuce. Yummy peanut sauce drizzled over.
Coconut Curry Tofu over a mix of Red/White Quinoa. There is also italian peppers, carrots, corn, pineapple, and bock choy in there. SUCH a tasty dinner. Quinoa takes a bit to cook in the steamer, so the sauce simmered for quite a long time, enriching the flavor.

FOREVER
...or at least, until next week.
watercolor, gouache on watercolor paper
I'm on a painting kick lately; Enjoying it a lot, and hope it continues. I've also been making prints of my work and putting them up in my Etsy store. I've been experimenting with different papers for prints and I decided today that I like the Epson Velvet Fine Art paper. It's has a nice weight to it, and I think it works really well with the subtleties of watercolor and the slight texture that I like to add.
This weekend will be so fun! I'm flying to Chicago tomorrow night, for fun-filled playtime with Nate. yay! I'm excited to see snow and I'm bringing my camera to capture it for posterity.
xoxo

Update Shmupdate
First off, I'm in love with Joanna Newsom and want to run off into the woods to frolic among magical creatures with her. I went to see her this past friday night at BAM and was feeling rather smitten when I left. She played with a full orchestra for the first half of the show and then with a small band the second half. Her and her harp and her warbles make quite a friday night. She played my favorite song too. And that dress! ah! she had a fancy long black dress for the first half of the show. So pretty!
I've been doing a couple of custom orders this past week:
I had a "derrrr" moment earlier this week, looking for cupcake paper in the stores. I couldn't find any and was starting to get a little sad that I wouldn't be able to fulfill an order, when I realized that I MAKE PRINTS FOR A LIVING. Yeah. Not my most shining moment. So I made a cupcake print and all is right in the world of cupcakes and recipe boxes.

I'm currently working on a group of paintings. Should have prints of them in the next few days. Also, i'm super-excited about GLOW-IN-THE-DARK sculpey!! Hello ghosts.
